@DAX | Digital Arts Xchange connects with Hayley Miller, Founder of World VFX Day...
...finding out more about this celebration of the VFX Industry and the fantastically talented people who create the on screen magic.
“I’ve worked in visual effects for around seven years and I’m constantly in awe of what is created, and the level and speed of innovation. But not enough people outside of our industry realise how much work and passion drives what we see on screen, or even when VFX is on screen, because it’s so good. We also have the media and even those within filmmaking who play down the use of VFX, or deny its use altogether. The 'World VFX Day' initiative aims to provide a platform to help enable the positive recognition the visual effects industry deserves.” Hayley Miller, Founder.
About World VFX Day:
'World VFX Day' is an annual global observance, held on the 8th of December, dedicated to celebrating the exceptional achievements and contributions of the visual effects community. Founded in 2023 with support from a collective of VFX studios, organizations, and professionals, this event seeks to elevate the profile of the VFX industry, promote unity, and foster an overall greater global recognition. The 8th of December is chosen in homage to George Méliès’ birthday, a filmmaker who was one of the most prolific early pioneers of visual effects.
World VFX Day made its live debut via YouTube on the 8th of December 2023, supported by a collective of over 450 visual effects and animation studios, organisations and professionals, and watched by over 17,000 people worldwide. The main event takes place across a multi-hour livestream on YouTube, and it’s always free. The World VFX Day mission is to cast a spotlight on an industry which enables filmmakers and creators to visualise stories beyond the realms of imagination, but is often overlooked.
World VFX Day brings together amazing speakers to celebrate their craft. Watch previous talks via the World VFX Day YouTube channel here.
Everyone is encouraged to take part by becoming an official supporter, attending upcoming events, joining the conversation and sharing ideas. Simply contact Hayley via the website if you’d like your studio on the supporter list, take part or have suggestions.
