The Lead compositor assists the CG Sup and/or Comp Sup and Producer to bid, schedule and execute the compositing production schedule. Day-to-day, they assign and delegate work to the team and monitor shot progress to meet aesthetic and deadline expectations set by the creative supervisors.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Assists Comp Sup, CG Sup, and Producer with bidding and scheduling
- Staffing recommendations in collaboration with supervisors and managers
- Interviews and reviews potential candidates with manager when requested
- Is involved in look development or delegatesto senior compositor • Attends dailies and follows up with team regarding notes, fixes, etc.
- Monitors shot and sequence progress and informs Comp/CG/VFX sup
- Color grading and management of sequence continuity
- Identifies problems and effectively implements solutions
- Responsible for quality control on the team’s composites
- Composites complex shots if needed
- Mentors less experienced artists
- Upon completion of project if requested:
- Documentation and element archiving
- Provides in-depth feedback of compositing crew to Managers
Education and/or Experience Required:
- Minimum 3 years experience
- Understanding of photography, composition, lighting, color, and motion
- Aesthetically and creatively capable of producing high-quality images
- Demonstrated leadership experience and qualities
- Strong communication skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Professional in all dealings with Production, Sup and crew
- Team player who takes and provides direction well
- Dependable under pressure with attention to detail
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:
- Office working environment
- Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending production needs
