Technical Sound Designer
Dambuster Studios - creators of the number one BAFTA-nominated smash hit Dead Island 2 - has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Sound Designer to join our highly talented Technical Design team.
Role overview
As a Technical Sound Designer, you are responsible for implementing and maintaining technical audio setups across the game, acting as a bridge between game design and code.
You will independently design and deliver audio features, systems & tools, contributing to team output through reliable execution, sound technical decision-making, and effective collaboration across disciplines.
Note: this role does not include music composition

Responsibilities
- Demonstrates strong proficiency in relevant scripting languages (e.g. Blueprint) and audio tools (e.g. Wwise) through delivery of production-quality features or systems
- Demonstrates proficient with industry-standard DAWs (Reaper, Pro Tools etc).
- Applies software design principles, debugging techniques, and performance considerations in implementation decisions
- Translates requirements into working technical solutions with minimal support
- Identifies root causes of issues and proposes viable solutions
- Communicates effectively with engineers and non-engineers to refine requirements and solutions
Requirements
- Owns features or significant components from implementation through to delivery and support, ensuring quality and reliability
- Breaks down work into tasks, manages progress, and meets agreed commitments
- Investigates issues independently, identifies root causes, and implements appropriate fixes
- Proposes solutions to moderately complex problems, including consideration of basic trade-offs
- Makes day-to-day technical decisions without requiring approval, seeking input when appropriate
- Contributes to audio blueprint reviews and technical discussions with constructive input
- Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure solutions meet product and production needs
- Supports and onboards less experienced engineers, sharing knowledge within the team
- Writes robust, maintainable, and efficient blueprint, handling edge cases and failure scenarios
- Identifies and implements improvements to existing systems where issues are evident
