Freelance VFX Editor

Location: Remote / Hybrid / Onsite
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and manage VFX turnovers from the offline edit to the VFX team.
- Ingest, organise, and maintain shot databases, temp comps, and editorial versions.
- Cut in VFX shots into the latest edit and maintain up-to-date sequences for review.
- Track shot status using production tools and maintain version control.
- Perform quality control on VFX shots before they are presented or delivered.
- Support shot reviews, editorial updates, and client deliveries.
- Collaborate with editorial and post-production teams to maintain continuity across sequences.
- Create temp comps and mock-ups to assist with shot planning or client approvals.
- Generate EDLs, reference pulls, and VFX-specific editorial assets as needed.
- Assist with the conform and online processes by providing up-to-date editorial material.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a VFX Editor or Assistant Editor in high-end Feature Film or Episodic Television.
- Proficiency in industry-standard editing software such as Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro.
- Experience with VFX tracking tools such as ShotGrid, ftrack, or NIM.
- Familiarity with conforming, EDLs, XMLs, LUTs, and file formats/codecs.
- Strong technical understanding of visual effects workflows and post-production pipelines.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Strong communication skills to liaise between creative and technical teams.
Preferred/Bonus Skills:
- Experience working in a remote production environment
- Familiarity with Nuke, After Effects, or other compositing tools
- Scripting or automation skills (Python, bash)
- Prior experience in animation or game cinematics
- Understanding of colour grading and DI workflows
