Job Purpose:
The Consumer Insight Principal will play a critical role in delivering high-value, complex research projects that inform game, product, and player experience decisions. Reporting to the Associate Director of Consumer Research, this role will be a senior individual contributor and thought leader within the research team, directly influencing the studio’s strategic direction through evidence-based insights.
In addition to leading major research initiatives, the Consumer Insight Principal will be instrumental in developing the standards, training materials, and processes that underpin the studio’s self-serve research platform. This will enable colleagues across the business to conduct their own research in a safe, consistent, and effective way, expanding the reach and impact of the research function.
You will be working with the highly creative, data driven and talented individuals across the Jagex Analytics, Marketing, & Games teams to drive forward reporting.
- Delivering high-value, complex research projects from end-to-end focused on game design, product development, and player experience.
- Apply a rounded mix of quantitative and qualitative methodologies to generate deep insights into player needs, values, and behaviours.
- Translate research findings into clear, actionable recommendations that influence senior stakeholders across product, marketing, and NPD.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships, effectively influencing decision-making at multiple levels across the business.
- Shape and drive research roadmaps that support the strategic direction of key games and initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with our Community teams to engage with players in our channels and ensure their perspectives inform research insights.
- Partner closely with analytics, data science, and game teams to triangulate research with behavioural and performance data.
- Support the Associate Director in shaping the studio’s research strategy and embedding a culture of player-centric decision-making.
- Develop and document research standards, training materials, and processes to ensure high-quality, consistent research practices across the studio.
- Contribute to the design and rollout of the self-serve research platform, ensuring safety, governance, and best practice.
- Mentor and guide colleagues in best-practice research methodologies.
- Act as a research ambassador across the studio, promoting the value of player insight in strategic decision-making.
Essential Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in consumer/user/market research, with some experience in games, entertainment, or other community/player-focused industries.
- Proven track record of delivering complex, high-impact research projects with clear business influence.
- Deep expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, including running playtests and quantitative surveys
- Ability to translate complex findings into compelling narratives for both senior stakeholders and development teams
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, fostering strong cross-functional partnerships and enabling research to have meaningful impact at every stage of game development.
- Familiarity with research tools, survey platforms, and governance of research activities.
Desirable Requirements
- Familiarity with self-serve or decentralised research platforms
- Knowledge of advanced research methods (segmentation, conjoint analysis, etc.)
- Experience mentoring or training non-research colleagues in research techniques.
- Familiarity with SQL or R
- Experience in developing research frameworks, standards, and training.
