Realtime Environment Artist (Unreal Engine) – VFX
Note: This role will offer remote working in EU time zones.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Realtime Environment Artist with strong experience in Unreal Engine and VFX production pipelines. This role focuses on building high-quality, production-ready realtime environments for film, episodic and cinematics projects. You will work closely with VFX Supervisors, Virtual Production teams, CG artists, and technical departments to create visually compelling, optimized environments that integrate seamlessly into final pixel delivery.
This position requires both artistic excellence and a deep understanding of VFX workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality realtime environments using Unreal Engine 5
- Develop modular environment assets and assemble large-scale scenes
- Build and optimize materials using Unreal’s material editor and shaders
- Set up lighting for cinematic-quality output (Lumen / baked workflows as required)
- Integrate Megascans, photogrammetry, and custom assets into production scenes
- Collaborate with VFX Supervisors to match plate photography and CG lighting
- Ensure assets meet performance targets for realtime playback
- Work within established VFX pipelines and naming/versioning conventions
- Troubleshoot technical and rendering issues in collaboration with TDs
- Prepare environments for Virtual Production (LED volumes) when required
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a VFX, Virtual Production, or AAA game studio environment
- Strong proficiency in Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5)
- Solid understanding of traditional VFX production pipelines
- Experience delivering environments for film, episodic, or high-end realtime projects
- Strong knowledge of:
- PBR workflows
- Lighting and cinematic composition
- Level assembly and world building
- Optimization techniques for realtime performance
- Experience with DCC tools such as Maya, Blender, Houdini, or similar
- Familiarity with asset management and version control systems (Perforce preferred)
- Ability to interpret concept art and translate it into production-ready environments
Nice to Have
- Experience with Virtual Production / LED volume workflows
- Knowledge of Blueprint systems
- Understanding of Niagara or realtime FX workflows
- Photogrammetry processing experience
- Experience with USD pipelines
- Python or scripting knowledge
- Experience working on ICVFX shoots
