Senior UI/UX Artist
6-Month Fixed Term Contract
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior level UI / UX Artist to join an exciting indie studio on a 6-month fixed term contract. This is a varied role (approximately 70% UI, 30% UX) where you'll be instrumental in crafting immersive, beautiful, and functional interfaces and wireframes on a new game project.
The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating UI / UX work in the fantasy or mid-core gaming space, with an eye for the epic, atmospheric aesthetic that defines the genre—think rich textures, intricate detailing, and thematic consistency rather than minimalist casual game design.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement high-quality UI/UX elements including HUDs, menus, icons, and interface systems that enhance the fantasy game experience
- Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to communicate design concepts and user flows
- Collaborate closely with game designers, artists, and programmers to ensure UI/UX aligns with gameplay and narrative
- Develop and maintain UI/UX style guides and asset libraries to ensure visual consistency
- Iterate on designs based on playtesting feedback and user data
- Optimize UI/UX assets for performance across multiple platforms
- Support UX design through user journey mapping and interface flow documentation
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience shipping titles from development through to launch (not solely live operations experience)
- Strong portfolio showcasing UI work in fantasy, RPG, or mid-core gaming genres
- Expert knowledge of UI design principles, typography, iconography, and color theory
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, or similar)
- Understanding of UX principles and ability to balance aesthetic design with usability
- Experience working with game engines (Unity or Unreal Engine preferred)
- Ability to work within technical constraints and optimize for performance
- Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset
Desirable Skills
- Experience with motion design and UI animation
- Knowledge of accessibility standards in game UI
- Understanding of responsive design for multiple screen sizes and platforms
- Experience with prototyping tools and interactive mockups
- Familiarity with scrum/agile development methodologies
- Passion for fantasy settings, lore, and world-building
What We're Looking For
You have an instinct for fantasy aesthetics—you understand that mid-core fantasy players expect depth, atmosphere, and visual richness. You know how to balance ornate, thematic UI with clarity and usability. You've been through a full development cycle and understand the challenges of shipping a game, not just maintaining one that's already live.
