VFX Artist
Fixed-Term Contract
London / UK Remote
DAX is supporting a growing UK VFX Studio with key contract hiring.
We’re looking for a VFX Artist who cares about the finished image and enjoys being involved in the process from the early ideas through to final delivery.
You’ll work closely with the VFX Supervisor, directors, editors and other artists to create visual effects that feel natural within the shot and, most importantly, support the story. We’re a small, experienced team, so you’ll have a real opportunity to contribute ideas, solve problems and take ownership of your work.
What You’ll Do
- Take shots from initial brief and previs through to final delivery.
- Work with the VFX Supervisor and wider team to develop the right approach for each shot.
- Create and integrate VFX with a strong understanding of lighting, composition, camera and live-action footage.
- Contribute to look development and creative problem-solving, not just the execution of a brief.
- Work across 3D FX including particle and fluid sims, rigid body destruction and lighting and look dev as required by the project.
- Keep your work organised, with clear notes and setups that can be understood and picked up by others.
- Work to agreed schedules and communicate early if you see a technical, creative or production issue.
- Take feedback positively and make revisions efficiently while maintaining a high standard.
- Help build a consistent visual approach across shots and sequences.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is confident technically but also has a strong eye for the final image.
You’ll ideally have:
- A strong reel showing finished, integrated VFX work rather than just individual elements or breakdowns.
- Professional Houdini experience working within a 3D and compositing pipeline.
- Good understanding of lighting, look development, compositing and CG integration with live action.
- The ability to take a brief or piece of previs and work out a practical approach to achieving the shot.
- A good eye for detail, composition and visual quality.
- The ability to take direction, respond to feedback and work collaboratively.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to explain your creative or technical decisions.
- A practical approach to problem-solving, with an understanding of how creative decisions need to work within time and budget.
The Team
You’ll be joining a small, experienced team based in the UK with international collaboration and working closely with the VFX Supervisor.
The work is varied and collaborative, with opportunities to work directly with directors, editors and production. You’ll have access to professional 3D, compositing and review tools, shared assets and the time to develop ideas properly.
We believe good planning makes better VFX. You’ll be encouraged to think about the best way to approach a shot before jumping straight into production.
Why Join Us?
- Work within a small, experienced and collaborative team.
- Have genuine creative input into the work you produce.
- Be involved from early planning and look development through to final delivery.
- Work on design-led film and moving-image projects.
- Take ownership of your shots and see your work through to the final screen.
- Work in an environment where quality matters, but where people are just as important as the pixels.
Interested?
If you enjoy solving visual problems, care about the details and want to see your work through from the initial idea to the final frame, we’d love to hear from you.
Send us your reel and, if possible, tell us about one shot you’re particularly proud of - what the challenge was, how you approached it and what you learned along the way.
