Senior 3D Generalist - VFX
Fixed-Term Contract
London / Remote UK
DAX is partnering with a UK based VFX Studio on key project hiring.
We’re looking for a Senior 3D Generalist who enjoys being involved in the creative process and has the skills to take an idea from early development through to a finished shot.
You’ll work closely with the VFX Supervisor, directors and other artists to develop design-led VFX, helping to shape how a shot works as well as how it looks.
As a senior member of the team, you’ll also help guide other artists and share your experience along the way.
What You’ll Do
- Take ownership of shots from initial brief and concept through to final delivery.
- Develop models, environments, assets and shots for film and high-end moving-image projects.
- Work across modelling, look development, layout, lighting and rendering depending on the needs of the project.
- Turn creative briefs, reference and previs into practical 3D solutions.
- Explore different design and visual approaches before committing to production.
- Work closely with the VFX Supervisor and wider team to maintain a consistent look across shots and sequences.
- Prepare clean, well-organised work for compositing and other departments.
- Troubleshoot creative and technical issues and find practical solutions.
- Take part in reviews and dailies, giving constructive feedback and helping other artists develop their work.
- Communicate clearly about progress, priorities and any issues that could affect the schedule or final result.
About You
We’re looking for someone with strong all-round 3D skills, a good eye for design and the experience to know what will work in a production environment.
You’ll ideally have:
- A strong reel showing finished shots and imagery that demonstrate your involvement in the full 3D process.
- Professional experience across modelling, look development, lighting, layout and rendering.
- A good understanding of what makes a shot work visually, from composition and camera through to lighting and final integration.
- Experience taking a shot from an initial idea or brief through to a finished image.
- The ability to work across different areas of 3D rather than being limited to a single discipline.
- Good problem-solving skills and a practical approach to working within production schedules.
- Experience working with directors, supervisors and other artists and responding positively to creative feedback.
- The confidence to give constructive feedback and support less experienced artists.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
The Team
You’ll be joining a small, experienced team of VFX artists based in Sydney, working closely with the VFX Supervisor and creative leads.
The work is collaborative and shot-based, with opportunities to contribute from the early creative stages rather than simply picking up a task once everything has already been decided.
You’ll have access to professional 3D, lookdev, lighting and review tools, along with the time and support to explore ideas and develop the right approach for each project.
We believe good planning makes better VFX, so you’ll be encouraged to think about the creative and technical approach before getting deep into production.
Why Join Us?
- Work as part of a small, experienced and collaborative team.
- Have genuine creative input into the work you produce.
- Take ownership of shots from early development through to final delivery.
- Work across different areas of 3D rather than being tied to one department.
- Help shape the work while supporting and mentoring other artists.
- Work on design-led film and moving-image projects.
- Be part of a team where quality, craft and the final image really matter.
Interested?
If you’re a strong all-round 3D artist who enjoys solving creative problems, getting stuck into the detail and seeing your work through to the final frame, we’d love to hear from you.
Send us your reel and, if possible, tell us about one or two shots you’re particularly proud of - what the challenge was, how you approached it and what you brought to the final image.
