Position Overview
The Technical Artist will be working with a team of Designers, UX, Concept Artists, Animators, Producers and Software Engineers to develop beautiful and optimal game content. The Technical Artist acts as liaison between engineering, art and all other disciplines, responsible for the planning, implementation, documentation and optimization of art setups to support our game’s animation and design needs. A key member who’s primary role is to support the team and the product and is expected to be proactive in their communication on a daily basis.
What You'll Do:
- Work closely with the Art and Engineering teams to construct game assets in Unity
- Export 2d art assets from concept art to Unity for in game dialogs, features, etc
- Maintain and troubleshoot pipeline for in game assets
- Provide feedback to the animation team and artists to enhance the quality of the assets.
- Help to drive and direct overall asset pipeline for future project needs, with tool/workflow development geared towards extensibility and flexibility for upcoming needs
- Develop and maintain tools for the production pipeline, particularly for animation and technical art tasks
- Build upon existing tools and scripts
- Maintain a constant focus to refine techniques and processes to get them to the next level
- Leverage materials/shaders to achieve unique styles and hit amazing visual quality
- Identify redundancies in our workflow and provide solutions for automation
- Periodically audit project assets and perform cleanup
What You Bring:
- Effective communication with team members of varying disciplines including written documentation of pipeline processes
- 2+ years of experience with Unity
- Working knowledge 3D modeling, rigging and UV texturing with professional 3D software such as Maya or ZBrush
- Basic scripting with C#
- Understanding of optimizing 3D and 2D assets for memory and performance considerations
- Intermediate skills creating high quality VFX particle systems in Unity
- Experience with C# tools
- Core Adobe Creative Suite skills
- Technical background in developing scripts, Photoshop actions, and other automation tools necessary for art implementation and optimization
- 2+ years experience in games development, with shipped titles
- Experience with version control software such as Perforce, Git
- Animation and VFX experience is a plus
