Behind every great shot is a great pipeline – and we’re looking for someone who knows how to keep things moving.
Megalis is looking for an experienced Pipeline TD to join our team in Tokyo.
This is a key technical role in our studio. You’ll help design and maintain tools that keep our artists working efficiently and help the production run smoothly. You’ll need to work independently at times, but also collaborate closely with artists, production teams, and other departments.
We’re looking for someone who is proactive, organised, a practical problem-solver, and a clear communicator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pipeline Development: Design, build and support tools that improve production workflows, especially using USD-based packages.
- Technical Support: Help artists and production teams solve pipeline-related issues.
- Automation: Write scripts to reduce repetitive tasks and improve efficiency.
- Collaboration: Work with CG, comp and production teams to understand their needs and deliver solutions that fit.
- Integration: Make sure tools work well with standard software like Maya, Houdini, Nuke and ShotGrid.
- Code Maintenance: Write clean, well-organised code and help keep the pipeline codebase tidy and consistent.
- UI Development: Build user-friendly interfaces using Qt for internal tools.
- Training and Documentation: Create simple guides and occasionally run sessions to help others use pipeline tools effectively.
- Testing: Write occasional tests and technical documentation to support long-term maintainability.
- Technology Evaluation: Keep an eye on new tech and suggest ways we can improve.
- Cross-Department Coordination: Work with IT and Systems teams to keep things stable and scalable.
What You'll Bring:
- 3+ years of experience as a Pipeline TD or in a similar technical role in a VFX, animation, or gaming studio.
- Solid understanding of VFX production workflows and data management.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to technical challenges.
- Experience working in a Linux-based production environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical team members.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion.
- Proficiency in English is required, and Japanese language skills are considered an asset.
If clean code, solid pipelines, and happy artists sound like a good day, we look forward to hearing from you!
