Modeller (Short-Term Contract – Remote or Tokyo Studio)
Do you see form and shape as the foundation of storytelling?
We’re looking for a Modeller who can create characters, creatures, and environments with the precision and artistry needed to make them come alive on screen.
This short-term contract role can be worked remotely or from our Tokyo studio. You’ll collaborate with lookdev, rigging, and layout teams to build clean, detailed models that are both technically sound and artistically inspiring.
Key Responsibilities
- Asset Modelling: Create high-quality models for characters, creatures, props, and environments that meet both artistic and technical requirements.
- Hard Surface & Organic Work: Build everything from intricate mechanical assemblies to anatomically detailed characters and creatures.
- Sculpting & Detailing: Use ZBrush and other tools to create nuanced organic detail, with clean topology and optimised mesh density for production needs.
- Procedural Modelling: Apply Houdini or other procedural workflows to handle repetitive tasks and create scalable systems.
- Lookdev & Rigging Support: Deliver models prepared with clean UV layouts and appropriate topology for shading, lighting, rigging, and animation.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with lookdev, rigging, and FX teams to ensure assets integrate seamlessly across the pipeline.
- Feedback & Review: Present work in dailies, respond to supervisor notes, and provide constructive feedback to junior modellers when needed.
- Problem Solving: Tackle complex design challenges, finding creative ways to deliver within technical and artistic constraints.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience: 3–6 years of modelling experience in VFX or animation production.
- Software Proficiency: Maya, ZBrush, Houdini, and familiarity with Substance/Mari workflows.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong grasp of topology, UV mapping, and displacement workflows.
- Artistic Eye: Ability to sculpt and design both realistic and fantastical assets with attention to anatomy, proportion, and detail.
- Collaboration: Effective communication and teamwork skills in a production environment.
- Languages: Proficiency in English is required; Japanese is an advantage.
If you’re ready to create the forms that become the foundation of unforgettable visuals, we’d love to hear from you.
