Job Description
The role
As a Senior Matchmove and RotoAnim Artist we require experience, familiarisation with both spherical and anamorphic workflows. You are expected to have some basic knowledge of layout tasks as well as photogrammetry, surveying and aligning to 3D environments and/or LIDAR scans also roto-animate a variety of characters and/or objects that match the film backplates for various film projects and maintain consistent shot quality.
Key skills
- Strong software knowledge in 3DEqualizer, Maya, and basic proficiency in Nuke.
- Solid understanding of various lenses and experience in solving lens grids for accurate distortion profiles.
- Skilled in creating proxy geometry and master proxies in the absence of LIDAR or scan data.
- Well-versed in both spherical and anamorphic workflows, including analysis of lens grids to generate undistorted plates.
- Understanding of body mechanics and motion accuracy, especially when translating live-action reference to 3D characters or objects.
- Proactive in problem-solving and quick to develop effective workarounds tailored to show-specific needs.
- Maintains continuity across shots and scenes, particularly when collaborating with other Roto Animation Artists on shared characters or rigs.
- Thorough understanding of matchmove principles such as lens characteristics, distortion, parallax, motion blur, and depth of field.
- Skilled in manual tracking, especially in shots with minimal or poor tracking data.
- Demonstrated experience working in photo-real/live-action VFX pipelines, with contributions to commercials, TV, or feature films preferred.
- Capable of working under deadlines while ensuring high-quality output and adherence to technical and creative requirements.
