The Role
DAX | Digital Arts Xchange is looking for a Senior Animator to join a London VFX Studio on a Freelance Contract.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced artist who not only brings a high level of craft to their work but also thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys mentoring others, and can communicate clearly and constructively with both artists and production. You'll be part of an international network of creatives, working on top-tier full CG trailers, cinematics, and VFX content for games, film, and TV.
What you'll do
- Create high-quality animation performances within project deadlines, ensuring that it meets the director’s vision and the project’s requirements
- Take ownership of complex shots, working on a range of tasks including working with Motion Capture, Keyframe, Facial and Creatures
- Collaborate closely with an international Animation team, Supervisors and artists to ensure consistent performances and quality, including participation in team meetings, and contributing to creative discussions to enhance the overall project
- Interpret and implement creative feedback, as well as proactively troubleshooting creative and technical challenges within shots
- Use a range of animation tools and software to create dynamic animation, whilst maintaining a good understanding of animation techniques and industry trends
What you bring
- 5+ years of professional experience as an Animator in high-end VFX or CG-heavy projects
- Strong understanding of animation principles, performance acting and storytelling, as well as a strong eye for detail.
- Must be able to work confidently with both mocap and keyframe shots
- Advanced proficiency in the animation software Maya (to also have proficiency in the softwares Houdini and Blender would be a plus)
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to give and receive clear feedback and apply it to your work, as well as excellent interpersonal skills
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when needed.
- Prior experience working across international teams is highly valued, as many of our projects involve close cross-site collaboration with Europe-based teams
- Ability to meet deadlines and maintain high-quality standards under pressure

Desirable skills
- Knowledge of rigging and character setup
- Experience working in a production pipeline using tools such as Ftrack or similar
- A solid showreel showcasing previous projects with a description on what was done on each shot
