The Regional Head of GenFX is responsible for the operational leadership, craft quality and team health of GenFX within their region. Where the Global Head defines the vision, strategy and standards for GenFX studio-wide, the Regional Head ensures those standards are executed consistently across every show and every artist within their territory.
This is a hands-on leadership role that demands someone equally comfortable reviewing shots in dailies, troubleshooting a technical pipeline failure, coaching a Lead or Supervisor through a difficult conversation or presenting regional plans to production heads and leadership. The Regional Head is the person who makes GenFX work day-to-day in the reality of overlapping shows, shifting priorities, evolving tools and artists at varying stages of proficiency.
The Regional Head is a craft leader with deep technical credibility who can step into any show-level conversation and add value. They translate global strategy into regional plans, adapt global standards to local production realities, and feed ground-level intelligence back to the Global Head to inform studio-wide decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Creative & Technical
Maintain technical fluency across the GenFX toolset, able to evaluate Supervisor-level creative and technical decisions, troubleshoot escalated pipeline issues and provide credible craft direction when needed.
Oversee the creative and technical quality of all GenFX output across shows in the region, ensuring consistency with global quality standards and show-specific directions.
Support GenFX Supervisors on complex creative or technical challenges, serving as an escalation point without undermining their show-level authority.
Review and approve GenFX methodologies for shows within the region, ensuring approaches are production-viable, scalable and aligned with global pipeline standards.
Stay current with emerging generative AI tools and techniques, evaluating their applicability to active regional productions and feeding assessments to the Global Head for studio-wide consideration.
Pipeline & Integration
Ensure global GenFX pipeline standards, workflow templates and handoff protocols are implemented and maintained across all shows in the region.
Identify regional pipeline gaps, friction points, or tool needs and escalate them to the Global Head and Pipeline/Engineering teams with clear context and priority recommendations.
Coordinate with regional Heads of Compositing, CG and other departments to maintain smooth integration points between GenFX and traditional VFX workflows.
Adapt global workflow templates to regional production realities where necessary (e.g. facility-specific infrastructure, time-zone-driven review cycles, local tool availability), while maintaining compatibility with the global standard.
Quality & Governance
Enforce global QC standards for GenFX output across all regional shows, e.g. grain, color pipeline compliance, temporal consistency, hallucination QC and photorealistic integration.
Ensure compliance with the Eyeline and Netflix’s responsible AI use policies as well as project and client-specific contractual requirements.
Conduct periodic quality audits across regional shows, identifying systemic issues and driving corrective action in partnership with Supervisors.
Escalate governance concerns (ethical edge cases, client sensitivities, legal grey areas) to the Global Head with clear context and recommended courses of action.
People & Culture
Manage and develop GenFX Supervisors within the region, setting expectations, providing regular feedback, supporting their creative authority, and developing their leadership capabilities.
Where shows do not require a dedicated Supervisor, directly oversee GenFX Leads and their teams.
Own regional talent development: identify skill gaps across the team using the department proficiency framework, build targeted training plans and coordinate with global training initiatives.
Partner with Crew Management / HR on regional hiring, onboarding, and retention for GenFX roles, sourcing and interviewing candidates, conducting technical assessments and making hiring recommendations.
Conduct proficiency assessments and career development conversations for Supervisors and Leads, connecting individual growth plans to the GenFX career ladder.
Drive knowledge-sharing within the region, facilitate show-and-tells, technique roundtables, post mortems and cross-show learning sessions.
Contribute to cross-regional knowledge transfer by sharing regional learnings, case studies and workflow innovations with other Regional Heads and the Global Head.
Foster a regional culture that reflects the global GenFX values: experimentation, craft excellence and open knowledge-sharing.
Production & Strategy
Own regional GenFX capacity planning, maintaining a clear picture of artist availability, show demands and utilization across the region.
Partner with regional Production leadership (Executive Producers, Heads of Production) to support show bidding and tasking with realistic GenFX effort estimates, risk assessments, and staffing recommendations.
Manage regional workload distribution across shows, balancing artist strengths, development goals and production needs.
Provide regular regional health reports to the Global Head: show status, staffing levels, utilization, quality trends, risk flags and team morale.
Coordinate cross-regional artist sharing when capacity imbalances arise, working with other Regional Heads to ensure smooth handoffs and consistent quality.
Track regional efficiency metrics and contribute data to global cost models for GenFX work.
Innovation & Representation
Champion a regional culture of experimentation, protecting time for artists and Supervisors to test new tools and techniques outside of immediate production pressure, within an R&D framework set by the Global Head.
Serve as the regional liaison to Labs / Visual Pioneering groups, ensuring R&D outputs are evaluated for regional production applicability and that regional production learnings feed back into the innovation pipeline.
Represent GenFX capabilities in client meetings, show kick-offs, and internal presentations as needed.
Participate in global working groups and evaluation panels (model evaluation, tool adoption, workflow design) as a regional voice, ensuring global decisions account for regional production realities.
